From Scratch Farmstead: How We Store One Year’s Worth of Homegrown Food

November 16th, 2024

Wow, the From Scratch Farmstead family is really going for it!

My family has never attempted to be self sufficient at beans. My hat is off to these people.

Thanks for posting. This is inspiring. Food security is the future for all.

Storage for minimally processed whole food.
Basic infrastructure (I’ve used those racks, heavy duty and the wire shelves are perfect). Hand milling equipment. Mason jars full of corn. I’d like to have a poll barn full of pallets of Mason jars.

You may not even have your own crop, for whatever reasons. Others will so you’re trading/buying/stocking during harvests as they occur in the community. Storing, canning, fermenting foods, brewing – the books, the basic equipment… it’s as important as the food itself.

Build it and the food will come.
