Your Children May Be Grieving the Death of Technoblade

July 2nd, 2022

This is far off-topic, but I wanted to do a quick post about it anyway.

Millions of people around the world, mostly children, love a Minecraft content creator called, Technoblade. If your children play Minecraft, they probably know Technoblade.

Technoblade died of cancer a couple of days ago.

Be on the lookout for grief in your children related to this.

I’m not here to suggest how to handle it and I don’t want to go into why, precisely, I’m posting about it, but let it suffice to say that I found this overlooking my children’s world on my family’s Minecraft server.

Amazing the breadth of possibilities of design and building Minecraft provides kids, and as much the forum it provides for the sharing of the best human traits by people like Alex, and many others. RIP

Thanks Kevin. My daughter has been affected by this. She was randomly crying the other night and told me he passed. It’s amazing the reach these content creators have, and the impact they leave on our kids. He seems like a good guy, with a good family, and my daughter loved him. Thanks for posting this, it’s a good PSA for those who may not understand why their child may be upset.

I thought that if I was noticing it in mine, with all of the limits I’ve put on their computer use, it’s probably affecting many others.

    Ohhhh, brother, you said it.

    Talk about reach…

My children are close friends with a young, homeschooled girl who lives a couple of valleys over from us. The only electricity her family has comes from a small solar panel and a Honda generator which is run very infrequently. In other words, she only gets to play Minecraft when she’s away from home. However, because their house is high on a hill, she can get a mobile phone signal and she’s allowed to use the phone for two hours per day, assuming the battery has enough charge.

When my children told me that their friend, with no computer at home and no electricity a lot of the time, knew all about Technoblade, Dream, advanced techniques in Minecraft, etc. I couldn’t believe it.

When she was over at our place the last time, she used my daughter’s account to start working on her house on our server. (My daughter gave up her precious screen time so that her friend could get started on her house.)

Playing together and working on challenges together is what they love.

I think they look up to those talented content creators because they push the limits far outside what’s “normal” in Minecraft. My children find that fascinating.
