TrueCrypt Developers Abruptly Quit

May 29th, 2014

truecrypt.ch has been established for those who want to continue TrueCrypt’s open source development.

The anonymous developers responsible for building and maintaining the free whole-disk encryption suite TrueCrypt apparently threw in the towel this week, shuttering the TrueCrypt site and warning users that the product is no longer secure now that Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP.

  1. Kevin,

Didn’t you mention previously you used TrueCrypt to encrypt?

I’m encrypted with it. Are you going to stop using it and any alternatives?

Apart from their “not secure” implying certain entities could be able to access it, I wonder if updates to the Windows OS could affect TC on a structural level and cause problems and the system to crash or something, though I think what they really meant was it could be accessed by the Stasi.

I don’t know what to do, but I think I’ll stick with TC for now, protects at least from thieves and cyber-criminals…

I use it and will continue to use it. Hopefully, others will continue to maintain it.

Another security related software package that’s real, in my opinion, is GPG.
