If you’re living outside the US, you don’t have to purchase health insurance by the end of March, 2014, through what will be the newly established health insurance marketplaces in each state. And unlike other citizens residing in the US, you won’t be penalized through a fine for not buying the mandatory insurance. In other words, if you’re an American living abroad throughout 2014, you will be exempt from buying heath insurance and exempt from the penalty for not buying it.
In fact, in order to buy the insurance as an individual, you must be living in the US.
There is widespread unawareness that this is coming, despite the coverage. I think that mostly people earning under $40k make up the population without insurance right now, and they will be the ones to sign up. This hopefully should make a dent in the problem of ridiculous 4-7 hour lines in the emergency rooms. It’s been a while since I had to visit one, but there are lots of reports of people with heart attack symptoms, broken limbs, pain etc. sitting in long lines. And we all get high prices for the unpaid bills. But there are so many people in emergency rooms who look like they would need a social worker to sign them up, and hold onto their insurance card for them. Maybe they don’t have an address to send the card to. Also, there are ~11million undocumented workers in the US

I believe that with this new health care scheme, Obama was able to raid the Medicare/Medicaid Trust fund which held 500 billion dollars.
In addition; I believe that in a very short time, medical procedures which are presently carried out by doctors will be downloaded to nurses and nurse assistants.
Obama Care was all about freeing up the funds set aside in the Medicare/Medicaid envelope and to “redefine” medical practices/procedures.
