January Support Efforts

February 1st, 2007

I’d like to take a moment to say a special “THANK YOU!” to Pookie and to all of you who rose to Pookie’s mid January challenge. January 2007 was on track to becoming one of the slowest months for support in about a year, but it didn’t end that way. You guys came through with over 3x the normal level of support.

The Amazon situation is a bit beyond belief as well. You broke the previous Amazon record by 3X. Also in January, someone ordered the highest commission item ever via Cryptogon. Someone out there takes their cooking very seriously. They went with the All-Clad Stainless 12-Inch Chef’s Pan.

You might have noticed that I occasionally make “rocket science” jokes. The funny thing is, I think there’s a real “rocket scientist” reading Cryptogon. This person ordered two of the most expensive books ever via Cryptogon:

Modern Engineering for Design of Liquid-Propellant Rocket Engines by Dieter K. Huzel and David H. Huang

along with…

Composite Airframe Structures by Michael Chun-Yu Niu

A total of six Xantrex power units were sold, along with ten Petzl Tikka Plus headlamps. In addition to books of every description, people bought software, soap, DVDs, CDs, diapers, vacuum cleaner bags, jewelry and lots of other stuff I didn’t even know you could buy on Amazon. The most popular book this month: Arrest-Proof Yourself by Dale C. Carson.

Thanks again to everyone who helped keep Cryptogon and Farmlet going in January.

For New Contributors: Summary of Ways to Help Out

If you like Cryptogon and you’re ready to put your money where your browser is, the following list tells you how you can help keep Cryptogon and Farmlet up and running with new and interesting content.

1) Send money using PayPal.

2) Buy anything I link to on Amazon.

3) Go to Amazon via any Amazon link on Cryptogon and shop as you normally would. Amazon pays me a commission on anything and everything you buy, as long as you enter Amazon via Cryptogon.

4) Purchase a webhosting package at Blue Host by clicking here, or the Blue Host ad banner on the right sidebar. Remarkably, this pays me $65 while you get an excellent hosting deal. There is absolutely no extra cost to you. Cryptogon and Farmlet are hosted on Blue Host. Read more about it here.

5) Buy a text ad on AdBrite to display on Cryptogon. The cost varies, but it’s extremely low right now.

Cool item, Eileen! Thanks for the good word on the bikes.
Hope they get them back in stock.

Can we also order Original Limu to help?

  5. Kevin says:

There are all kinds of cool electric bikes out there. I considered using one as a car replacement for a while when I was back in California. These guys sell very high end electric bikes:

Re: Limu: I’m not a Limu distributor anymore. When I moved to New Zealand, the product wasn’t available here. Once it became available, a one month supply cost half as much as our monthly living expenses here! It’s a great product though, I miss it very much.

    Kevin,
I bought the Mongoose from NorthernTool.com on a recommendation from Tom Lopez in Colorado who I bought my Sun Pony electic/solar tiller from.
Today I went to Northern Tool to check out whether they posted my review of the bike and it was not there. I’ll go to Amazon and do another post – maybe then they will stock it. Who noze?
Mother Earth News’ next edition is supposed to review electric bikes. I’ll be really embarrassed if they give this the thumbs down (though I doubt they would look at this low end model). That’s the beauty of it – cheap and powerful- under the radar.
The Mongoose weighs 90 pounds – I don’t weigh much more. If I’d had half a brain I’d have taken the battery off of the bike before assembling handlebars, etc. The test drive – before winter and time constraints set in here was down a hill 200 feet to a flat and was a thrill- there’s now a large flat area adjacent to my property that has been “leveled” for a sewer line replacement. I rode on this and goosed it over the tire tracks from the backhoes (that are now frozen).
There is a “whirring” sound from the bike when you accelerate. No pollution. No noise. No fumes. And you don’t have to use the power assist if you don’t want to. There are gears on it – it is after all, an all terrain vehicle with POWER assist. So you don’t have to use all the juice in a ride. I just wish I’d have been able to take it to the limit of the 15 mile rating before – well, I don’t have a lot of time I can spend out of the house on the weekends. I’ve got a 90 year old “baby.” 🙂
Amazing creature. Its a powerful one. GRRRR. or WHIRRRR, or PURRR. I think it could easily take on panniers, baskets, even a cart on the back end. This is going to be my next car. Will recharge from a solar panel when the sun starts shining here again (if ever) in PA.

    Cool, and thanks again, Eileen.
I’ve been contemplating buying one, just haven’t bit the bullet yet. Side panniers and a front basket would be great, too.
If Amazon gets them (back) in, I can help Kevin out with the purchase, a win/win.
