Angelina Jolie Joins Council on Foreign Relations

You can almost see the Oprah interviews about the chip or the vaccinations or the one currency to rule them all, or some other atrocity. (Take your pick.) Fat people in the audience, nodding their heads in agreement. Soft focus lenses. All the zombies out in TV land will lap it up, along with their prescription drugs and their DingDongs.

Hollywood A-lister and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has joined a prestigious US foreign policy think-tank.
Jolie, 32, was nominated and recommended for approval by members of the Council on Foreign Relations and joins the likes of presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the CFR.
Spokeswoman Lisa Shields said: “Angelina Jolie is accomplished in her field and has demonstrated serious interest in issues such as Darfur, international education and refugees.
“As such, her profile fits very well with other young professionals we’ve selected as the next generation of foreign policy leaders.”
Help me out here, Kevin: an actress plies her trade for a number of years, makes a pile of money, and then seeks (sincerely IMHO) to do some good with that money. Adopts children from impoverished countries, and works with the UN on issues like education and refugees. For this, she earns your (and many others) scorn and snark?
What would you prefer that she do? Tell us, please.
I’ve never understood this vitriole toward Jolie, but maybe I’m just a “zombie” from “prescription drugs and Ding Dongs” 😎
What part of Council on Foreign Relations don’t you understand?
Maybe the CFR needs a new “Orgy Girl” for their Bohemian Grove – Eyes Wide Shut style “rituals” and “drunken X-mas office parties”. Madeleine Albright is gettin’ up there in years and I hear Condi Rice tires out now between 20 and 30…Maybe Bill Clinton is a quick shot but I bet it’s like pushing a rope for President Carter, George Schults, and Henry Kissenger…so it’s good to get some “fresh meat” in there
Does anyone know if Bono is a member? And does anyone know what kind of “Bono-esque” things Jolie has done? I am always very suspicious of pop culture celebs who do good WHILE doing it loudly so the whole world knows (as if they do it for the publicity or something). There are plenty of celebs out there who help the poor and oppressed quietly, without press releases over it. So thanks, Kevin, for the news…so that anything that comes out of her mouth can be put in the proper perspective.

I long ago made it a point to ignore celebs who have their faces plastered on every moronic “news” magazine/future toiletry item. They can’t even DIE, as was the case of some famous princess, yet they haunt us to this day.
So snarky, so jaded, so cynical, so hard……
But no one answered my question: what would you rather that she do?

So……… it would be better if she just stayed in Hollywood, drove around in a Bentley and ate at Wolfgang Puck’s every night. Would that be an improvement.

The entertainment industry is very likely every bit as sold out to THEM as the corporate media. Nobody ought to be shocked to see a weirdo like Jolie in bed with the CFR.

Montysanto: Yep, that would be an improvement, and here’s why–that way, Jolie would be totally harmless to us peons! Similarly with the likes of Paris Hilton…would you rather this heiress do what the other oligarchs are doing, that is, screwing us little people, or would you rather she just lived her life (admittedly, being a diversion for those who refuse to think) being her self-destructive self WITHOUT trying to bilk the world’s people out of billions, as I suspect Bono and his ilk are doing, and not necessarily innocently, either. I am not trying to stir up controversy, but you called me out so I am replying. Hollywood (or otherwise) celebs, by dint of their scene, are really better off (for the sake of the rest of us as well as themselves) just being entertainers. It’s fine that she adopts kids from poor countries and the like. But when she joins the CFR she simply becomes a TOOL.

What should Jolie do, other than join the CFR, which wants One World Government for the benefit of life-sucking corporations? I’ll tell you what she should do… stay home and meditate. Be a living example of how to be in the world (Ghandi said this). The only real way to have any lasting impact on anyone is to be a living example to them for how to live properly.
Don’t join a ruthless opponent unless you are well-equipped to deactivate them from within. I doubt that’s what is on her agenda. I could be wrong.
