That VISA commercial makes me sick.. what they’re hinting at is more than obvious, and just for that – I think I’m going to start using cash more often. I already use cash for all the bills that I can (only my satellite TV bill I have to pay by cc), but in a sign of protest I think I’ll start using cash more and more and leave the visa card at home. Up yours Big Brother! 🙂
when I first saw that commercial on TV, I was up out of my seat apoplectic!
I almost wish I had a TV so I could see some of this crap first hand!
The Visa commercial came to mind when I took my kids to the zoo last week for a special Christmas event. There was a huge mass of people at the gates trying to pay for tickets. One line off to the side was designated “Cash Only”. It was just a folding table with a cash box and 2 employees (doing math in their heads – gasp!). No computers, no credit card machines, no electronic check readers, just people and cash. The credit (ie.electronic debt) lines were a virtual stand-still. By comparission, the cash line was flying. Which one do you think I was in?

I found this commercial creepy. I too, will be using cash even more often. But in this particular circumstance -lunch break -I typically do something even more un-American than paying with cash: I bring my own from home!
“Don’t let cash slow you down.” oh my gosh…
yeah, don’t let the idea that there’s something of value (something that _ought_ to be backed by gold) slow you down – conform to the reality that it’s all 1s and 0s, ephemeral, empty, easily produced and manipulated, laundered and directed, and spun through the networks by the banking industry.
spend! spend the 1s and 0s so the interest can build up for the owners as quickly as you spend it!
amazing that you can go into debt for 1s and 0s….
ick.
I’ve long favored cash – though I’ve not hesitated to use the c.c. – just because of cash’s ‘untrackability’.
I think my resolve has just been renewed.
