Security Turns U.S. Conventions Into $100 Million Fortresses

August 22nd, 2008

Via: Bloomberg:

Two U.S. cities will become virtual fortresses during the Democratic and Republican nominating conventions, protected by airplanes, helicopters, barriers, fences and thousands of police officers, National Guard troops and Secret Service agents.

In Denver, where Democrats assemble next week, police are spending $18 million on equipment alone and will be bolstered by National Guard troops and hundreds of officers from surrounding suburbs. In St. Paul, Minnesota, site of the Sept. 1-4 Republican nominating convention, police are calling on 80 law-enforcement agencies to provide 3,000 officers to supplement the city’s 500- person force.

Congress earmarked $100 million for security at the two meetings, where federal and local authorities are trying to guard against any dangers to candidates or convention-goers.

There couldn’t be a more concise symptom of the fall of empire. I can see the senators in their togas cowering in the Forum surrounded by a 10-deep praetorian guard as the Vandals trash the streets. Thank you, Cryptogon, for your continued acuity in pointing out the carbuncles on the skin of our society.

Coverage about “protecting” DNC participants is always amusing because the media is very vague about exactly whom they need to be protected from. I guess the implicit suggestion is it’s from terrorists or something. It could certainly never be anti-war, anti-torture, anti-fascism protestors, because it’s the Democrats! Aren’t the Democrats supposed to be against all those things too?

No no, it has to be fringe whack jobs and terrorists, otherwise the carefully maintained left/right paradigm starts to crumble.

I guess I’m pretty worried at what will occur at the convention.
2 Super Delegates that were to vote for Obama are dead, suddenly. Gwaltney (gunshot – his killer killed), and Tubbs of Ohio, age 58, who “suffered a hemmorhage will driving her car.
I for one can’t say what is going to happen at the convention. Seems to me though, from all that I have read, that this is going to be a fight of the Illumaniti as to whether Hilary’s gang busts the whole thing up, and or whether the “white knight templars” who I think are on the side of Obama keep things under control.
I don’t think there is any amount of dollars, people, or whatever to protect against the battle that is occuring. I’m resigned that there is going to be something very injurious to our nation occuring during the Democratic convention.
Maybe its just me remembering all of the crap that has occurred at conventions past at contentious times in our nation. Actually, its not just me, about 3 websites I visit regularly have their radar picking up the same vibes I am.
So what does a person do?
I am trying to lighten up.
Praying for no one to die.
But I do believe that there is a very large battle being waged right now.
Biden and Obama aren’t exactly the force for the light, but at least they aren’t the cult of Clinton. I’m sending my own particular prayers of security to the convention’s way.
Ya I know I’m goofy but it is what it is.

If you have a link related to this, I’d like to check it out.

    Kevin,
It is my opinion and insight only that it is an Illumanti battle. But that’s what my gut tells me.
I thought I posted a link last night.
I know you sent me instructions before re posting links. I will send what I have put together to you tomorrow.
