Earnings from February and March

April 3rd, 2013

Here are Cryptogon’s earnings from February and March.

In February, the total came to $759; a very rare earnings miss. You may have picked up on the fact that this site lives or dies by the U.S. Amazon commissions. Cryptogon readers backed off on Amazon purchases in February, and that’s pretty much the amount by which we missed the $1000 goal.

Moving on to March, the total came to $1240.23. That’s a great result.

Here’s how March worked out:

AM $60
Amazon $563.80
Amazon.ca CA$6.15
Amazon.co.uk £11.74
Anonymous $90
CD $25
DA $25
DS $50
Eileen $75
ID €25
JB $25
KM £50
MW $20
nonsolodenti.net $90
Pookie $75
TM $10

Take the two months together and we’re looking pretty good.

Thanks very much to everyone who kept us going over February and March. Obviously, I appreciate the direct contributions, which are mostly from people who have given far too much already. But looking through those Amazon totals… You guys are force on that thing. There are commissions on single items that range from $0.00 (people buying used books for a penny) up to $35 for a high quality chainsaw. The range of what’s in between is mind boggling. Video rentals, vitamins, tools of every description, books by the truckload, toys, food, cookware… It’s all counting towards the goal. Well, except those used books that cost a penny, but shine on you crazy diamonds who use the affiliate links to buy those! I salute you.

Now, I’d like to acknowledge a very special gift from the Banana Farmers, who are long time Cryptogon supporters from Hawaii. Instead of a check this year, they sent a heavy box full of delicacies that they and other family members produce themselves on their properties in Hawaii. The box contained dried organic bananas, dried organic pineapple rings, a range of hand crafted organic chocolates and three pounds of organic Kona coffee beans. Yeah, man! WOW!

I’ve been drinking coffee since my early 20s, but I’ve never tried Kona coffee before. Trying some had been on my To-Do list for a long time, but it hadn’t happened. (In case you don’t know, Kona coffee is VERY expensive.) Needless to say, I was thrilled to see those packs of coffee beans.

Everything was delicious beyond description. I asked the Banana Farmers if they would like me to promote their businesses on Cryptogon, but it turns out that all of the dried bananas and chocolate products are sold locally and the dried pineapple rings and coffee are not for sale (these are gifts for family and friends). This is keeping them busy enough for now. I could provide a bit more detail, but if their small island community is anything like my small island community… It’s a village. I hope that I haven’t said too much already, in terms of maintaining their privacy.

Thank you, Banana Farmers.

Thank you for sharing the story about Banana Farmers. Some days it’s important to hear positive news.

Slightly off-topic perhaps – I’m wondering if you get commission on gift card purchases or only merchandise. I hope it works for gift cards. Please let me know. That could change our buying patterns.

    Cheers.

Oh yes, the gift cards definitely count. I see those coming up all the time.

Thanks Kevin. My wife often orders from work and doesn’t always click through your link. By buying her gift cards I’d hoped to get you a commission for all purchases. That’s much easier than trying to manage her book buying directly. 🙂
