Transocean Will Make $270 Million from Insurance Payout on Destroyed Oil Rig

Eighteen Democratic senators have asked the Justice Department to investigate the operator of the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig after the company announced it would dole out $1 billion to shareholders as oil continues to pour into the Gulf of Mexico.
Transocean, according to the letter from the senators, plans to distribute dividends to its stockholders. And the senators are concerned that the payments might make it harder to collect liability payouts related to the massive oil spill.
Transocean, according to the letter, also says it will make a $270 million profit on the insurance policy for the rig. And the senators claim the rig was insured for more than it was worth.
Is it just me? Or didn’t this also happen after 9/11? Silverman collecting mega-bucks on an insurance policy on the towers/
One weeek into learning ahout this “disaster” I thought of it as sabotage. But that’s just me. An unfortunate with an overactive skull.
That dividends are being paid out on this event leaves me slack jawed. What the fluck?
I don’t know who these 18 Democratic Senators are, but methinks they should be freezing assets, and finding handcuffs. But such things haven’t been around since Reagan and his sons BushI, Clinton, and Bush II. This is so beyond my comprehension that these people aren’t being put in jail. The audacity to announce this when bodies haven’t been found yet is criminal.

Being the the person I am, and my own loss of late, leads me to begin to understand the acts of self demolition that peoples around the world commit.That there is not much of anything you can do when a loved one dies in old age is one thing entirely separate from this gig.

Probably many of you have read the recent account of what was happening on the rig. The lower status employees were asking permission to do the emergency shutoff, and were running around fleeing the fire and shaking platform, while the managers were acting like the captain of the titanic, blocking any action including lowering of the life rafts- and they had been filling the well with seawater instead of mud to save on the expense. In the article you posted I didn’t see anything mentioned about a bribe. As with Kevin – what’s that about. Interesting that you read something about a bribe in that article that is not there in print.
