Cryptogon Readers Contribute $125 and $30; Also, the Amazon Honor System

May 14th, 2007

EM sent $125 and GT sent $30. Many thanks to both of you.

Some of you have been wondering why I took down the $501 Dagobaz contribution. Paypal, it seems, has dealt me a bit of a setback on that one. I’m keeping my cool, for now, as this is the first and only problem I’ve had with Paypal in nearly five years of doing business with them on Cryptogon. Other payments are going through fine.

While this is the first time Paypal has let me down, unfortunately, it happened on a transaction involving a life altering amount of money for my wife and I. Why did Paypal refuse to complete Dagobaz’s payment? Both Dagobaz and I are waiting for an explanation. Dagobaz, however, has indicated that she will not allow Paypal to stop her from contributing to Cryptogon. (Hint to Paypal: Don’t mess with the women of Cryptogon. You will lose that fight.)

To create a bit of redundancy in direct contribution options, I have implemented the Amazon Honor payment system as an alternative to Paypal. (I know that many of you hate Paypal and refuse to use it under any circumstances. Well, here you go.) If you do not want me to know who you are, the Amazon Honors system is for you. When you send a contribution that way, Amazon’s system doesn’t transmit any of your personal information to me. Note: The Amazon Honor System only allows contributions of up to $50 per transaction.

Thanks Kev. I had never had a problem with Paypal until they wiped out my bank account for a refund this past week. So this may be a sign of things to come, if they decide to exploit their status.

It looks like our friends at paypal have changed their policys in regards to the methods they use to send/clear echecks.

I sent a paypal to someone I was purchasing some coins from on May 10 and it looks like he won’t get the money until May 15. It is going to be interesting looking at my bank account and see if they didn’t deduct the amount of the tenth.

I’ve never liked them, and this just confirms what a pack of jackasses they are because they haven’t told anyone that they have changed policy.

Google checkout is another alternative. Not too much trouble to set it up. I use PayPal too and so far no problems. It’s good to have a backup tho, and don’t let funds sit too long in your account.

  4. […] happy to announce that Dagobaz made Paypal deliver her $501 contribution. As you may have noticed, we hit a bit of a rough spot with Paypal over this. Well done, Dagobaz, whatever you […]
