New Samsung Solid-State EV Battery has 600-Mile Range and Charges in 9 Minutes…
August 21st, 2024As I read about Samsung’s new solid state battery, I started to wonder, “What’s the catch?”
These batteries require about 1KG of silver per vehicle:
He noted that while official numbers are currently unavailable, estimates show that there could be as much as five grams of silver per cell in Samsung’s solid-state batteries, meaning “a typical EV battery pack containing around 200 cells for a 100 kWh capacity could require about 1 kg of silver per vehicle.”

Samsung recently pulled back the curtain on its latest battery innovations aimed at powering tomorrow’s electric vehicles. From solid-state cells promising over 600 miles of range to ultra-fast charging and extended lifespans, the tech giant laid out an ambitious roadmap.
Samsung’s oxide solid-state batteries, now in pilot production and testing with automakers, boast an impressive energy density of around 500 Wh/kg – roughly double that of today’s mainstream EV batteries. The Elec notes the batteries have an unbelievably quick time to full-charge of just nine minutes and lifespans up to an incredible 20 years.
