Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Killed in Helicopter Crash

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner and potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border, officials and state media said on Monday.

The charred wreckage of the helicopter which crashed on Sunday carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew was found early on Monday after an overnight search in blizzard conditions.

    That makes a statement. Several possible ones. Wonder which are fiction, which non-fiction?

    Heavy clouds, mountains, high winds (?) and helicopters don’t mix very well of course. You also have to wonder what kind of a World we’ve gotten into with directed-energy weapons. Even Wikipedia lists a huge variety, if only a taste of what’s being developed. How would safety be affected if a pilot was just disoriented for a short time in those conditions?

    Remember those laser light pens of not so long ago that school kids used to play with and troublemakers used to flash at commercial pilots during landings? They disappeared quickly from public access.
