    I saw pre-packaged dog meat for sale in a supermarket in central Xi’an, Shanxi province. Orange and yellow wrapper, if I remember correctly.

    As for toilets, worst I’ve ever seen. Those in the video were particularly vile but at least they had airflow; one bus rest-stop urinal reeked so much of ammonia I could actually feel it in my nose and the back of my throat—I turned on my heel and after clearing my lungs outside in the night air, I took a deep breath and held it for the duration of my second try.
