Russia Seizes Arsenal of U.S. Weapons in Georgia
August 15th, 2008I’m squinting as I follow this situation. I almost don’t want to look.
Via: Dow Jones:
Russian forces have seized a “large arsenal” of U.S.-made weapons in the western Georgian city of Senaki including hundreds of assault rifles, a military spokesman said Friday.
“In Senaki, we seized a large arsenal of weapons including 664 U.S.-made M-16 rifles” and a number of M-40 sniper rifles, General Anatoly Nogovitsyn told a news conference in Moscow. “There were 1,728 weapons total.”
Georgia/Poland is starting to smell like the Republicans ace card to stay in office. Who do you want to handle a show-down with Russia? Law and order McCain? Or namby-pamby Obama? Is Russia in on it? Of course. Law and order on one side loves law and order on the other: the more likelihood they get to play with their bombs, or at least boost their arsenals and reward their weapons industry backers. (Wacko Iran was starting to look like political suicide for the Repubs. Too similar to the Iraq debacle. Perennial sobersides antagonist Russia is a much safer bet to enlist the support of the law and order brigade.) Chances are Georgia is in on it, too. As an American lapdog they went and barked at Osetia to give the Russians an excuse to invade. As anyone informed on the current government of Georgia knows, a few lives here and there don’t make any difference if currying favor with the current godfather is at stake. What do the lives mean to the Americans and Russians? Hey, that’s politics, baby. The U.S. Democrats don’t know who they’re dealing with. I don’t know enough about contemporary Poland. Are they in on it, too, or just playing their traditional role as patsies?
@Peregrino:
If people knew how stack-blowing hot-headed McCain was and if they were predisposed to make intelligent choices, the whole Caucausus insanity would have just the opposite effect. Unfortunately, the USA is the original Nation of Morons…
@Peregrino: Nah, it takes a Democrat President (Kennedy in ’62 over Cuba) or a double-agent (Oleg Gordiovsky in ’83 over Able Archer 83) to defuse and back away from a nuclear confrontation 🙂
