RICE: ALL RUSSIAN TROOPS IN GEORGIA “MUST LEAVE IMMEDIATELY”
August 15th, 2008Via: Dow Jones:
All Russian forces and irregular units with them must leave Georgia immediately, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in the Georgian capital Tbilisi Friday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili after he had signed a ceasefire deal, Rice said: “With the signing of this accord, all Russian troops, and any paramilitary and irregular troops that entered with them must leave immediately.”
IMO, given how thin American forces are stretched, and how dependent Europe is on Russian energy, Rice is speaking for a paper tiger. Unless, of course, we have another “catastrophic and catalyzing event”, in which case all bets are off. But I don’t think it will happen while W’s still in office. I’d love to hear what an Obama drone would tell us, re: how Obama’s going to deal with all these messes he’ll be inheriting. A McCain drone’s line is easy: “let’s go to war! (again)”.
