Besides Petraeus and Allen, there’s Gaouette and Sinclair.

The FBI probe into the sex scandal that prompted CIA Director David Petraeus to resign has expanded to ensnare Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced early Tuesday.

According to a senior U.S. defense official, the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 documents — most of them e-mails — of “potentially inappropriate” communications between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman whose close relationship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall.

    hm….

    (1) coincidence
    (2) multiple scandals that the administration has been doing its best to delay breaking until the election
    (3) some or all of the accused are part of an secret group working against the current government, or with active goals that are in conflict with government goals or policies.
    (4) some or all of the accused are known to hold viewpoints that will cause them to resist planned actions by the government which would require their cooperation, or at least their silent tolerance.

What we are expected to believe is (1). I see (2) as fairly reasonable – scandals are bad for re-election. (3) constitutes the scary ‘rogue military’ (coup?) possibility. (4) is even more out there, because I’m not sure what plans could be on the drawing table for which the administration would expect such resistance from the heads of the military.

I do agree. It’s a lot of house-cleaning all at once.
