“It shows the perpetrator repeatedly stabbing then dismembering the victim. It also appears to depict cannibalism and sexual defiling of the body.”
I am not sure how often this happens, but it seems odd to have so many case of cannibalism in the past couple of days only.

Now all we need to do is get a few of the Walking Dead up to the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, Virginia this weekend.
The menu of brains and hearts is here:

Cracked.com, the fine intellectual news organization that they are, has a nice piece on the zombie epidemic.

Well, epidemic is a bit of a stretch. Media driven hysteria is more appropriate. The whole 2012 thing is getting to people. I guess some people forget, a horribly mangled folklore from centuries ago, from a culture that doesn’t even exist today, makes for some good (and some horrible) movies, but it’s not the end of days. The zombies aren’t rising. There are nutjobs out there, and they will do nutjob things.
No one mentioned zombies in 2008 on this story:

Bat-shit crazy? Maybe. Zombie, I never heard it.
If you look around, there are crazy people doing crazy shit every day. Luckily, most end up locked up mental hospitals before they get the chance to make a sleeping homeless guy lunch.
We get clusters of stories like this all the time, because it’s easy news for publications to grab things that are similar that are getting high ratings.
I hate to think I’m desensitized to such things, but batshit crazy is out there. We’ve once again reduced the availability of health care (mental and physical) to those who need it.
i also heard about Luka Rocco Magnotta and his flight to france. i think the choice of music in his little home movie is telling. New order “true faith”

now for the crazy, i get a strange impression all these recent incidents are featuring more publicly for a reason. not like this sort of thing hasnt been happening for a long time with a fair degree of regularity, probably behind closed doors in controlled settings. more common citizens however are in no way equiped to hide their crimes and seem to be unaware such things are only “acceptable” for a certain class of people. the ideal american from Bret Easton Ellis, oh and then theres this.
my guess is that were seeing shrapnel from some incompetent “priest” trying to use rituals they have no real knowledge of to benefit idiots holding power. implication being someone thinks they can achieve control. the intention is a mystery to me, but the key ideas seem clear:
wrath
family
hunger
blindness
strange interplay between pop culture zombies and potential kill-off reality. old primal energies expressing themselves using any available outlet, path of least resistance type shit. and all coming on the heels of Trayvon Martin. f*cking zombies man, zombies.
