Switzerland Moves Embassy from Tokyo to Osaka

March 21st, 2011

Via: Swiss Info:

Switzerland has announced that its embassy in Tokyo has been transferred to Osaka, 600 km south of the Japanese capital.

A foreign ministry statement said the temporary move had been made because of the “uncertain situation” in Tokyo, and in particular around the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant.

The ministry said the embassy would continue to support those Swiss who wanted to leave the country, after the massive quake and resulting tsunami nine days ago.

It added that it was continuing to advise Swiss to leave Tokyo and the northeast of the country.

I watched the movie “The Hereafter” Saturday night. Intense scene of the Indionesian tsunami is part of the movie. I’m going to watch that part again. Unbelievable.
Much as I love and adore the ocean, I am wondering whether this movie will have the same impact that the movie “Jaws” had on me years and years ago. My parents used to take us to Fort Lauderdale by the Sea twice a year because we could stay at our Uncle’s condominium for free. My sister and I would get a float raft and paddle out where my parents couldn’t even see us from the beach anymore. Did they ever get mad at us!
I can’t blame the Swiss for wanting to “get out of dodge.” There is some scary shit going down in Japan. And its not just the ocean!
