Gulf Oil Stories
September 22nd, 2010Here are a few stories near the top of Florida Oil Spill Law right now. They just go on, and on and on:
“Entire food web at risk” say researchers just back from Gulf: OIL “may be HIDDEN in LARGE MARINE MAMMALS” — “Discolored” zooplankton found
Gulf Biologist: “Stunned” if oil product isn’t washing up for at least 20 years (VIDEO)
Gulf researchers discover SIX INCHES of “oily snow” on seafloor
Eat it Gulf Coast: BP says “It’s SAFE for YOUR KIDS to get SAND in their MOUTH” from beaches near where EXPLOSIVE sample was collected (VIDEO)
Snorkeler encounters submerged oil just offshore — “Proof oil is buried” just off coast (VIDEO)
State officials did NO TESTING on any dead fish from the FOUR major kills near oil-impacted areas — Because they “didn’t see any oil related pollution” (VIDEO)
FDA collected only ONE shrimp sample while trawling offshore Louisiana — For the entire month of July (VIDEO)
Scientists find “areas in the water column where there is NO OXYGEN” (VIDEO)
“50,000 workers and others exposed during the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill” — “Leukemia, multiple myeloma, and melanoma are of particular interest”
Went through most of these stories today. It’s absolutely awful in the Gulf. If you dare to look.
Went to the grocery store after yoga last night. Got to the check out counter and the woman ahead of me was a very low key ranter about the FDA. Didn’t get what she was saying.
Then the “Public Service Announcement” started.
“The FDA says that the seafood from the Gulf is (I am paraphrasing here) white as lily snow. It’s perfect. It’s virgin. You can stuff your face with it like you used to with No worries.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. In flucking NW Pennsylvania?
I don’t know how much anyone in this region can afford seafood, let alone stuff their face with it. But my gawd, how far up the literal food chain (excuse my analogy) does this uncommon bullshit go?
After the Exxon Valdez, I guess Alaska had a difficult time with “sales” of their seafood.
But with all of these fish kills in the Gulf, and the very idea of all the toxins from the dispersants, my gawd. Even the people making their living being fisherman say, “these fish suck.”
What’s wrong with this picture?
You see dead fish floating by the millions, and ah, duh, you want nothing to do with fish. Normal. Sane. And then the grocery store says to those who may or may not have a clue otherwise? I don’t know if anyone knows Hamlet around here, but something is definitely rotten in Denmark.
I’m looking for a BIG ROCK, or think I need a Nuclear Fallout Shelter, Decompression Tank or Zendo to find a space to quiet my mind. There is SO MUCH propoganda out there. Have to choose well what I let into my being.
Best to you, its a freaking jungle out there.
