Witnesses in Army Trial Killed in Crash

Several U.S. Army soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq last week were to be witnesses in the homicide trial of their former superior.
Honolulu’s KITV reported Sunday that some of the soldiers who died in the crash had been scheduled to testify in the trial of Sgt. 1st Class Trey Corrales, who is accused of orchestrating the death of an Iraqi detainee this year.
Corrales, who was in the same Hawaii-based platoon as the soldiers killed in Wednesday’s crash, allegedly shot the detainee repeatedly June 23. He is accused of then ordering his subordinate and fellow defendant, Spc. Christopher Shore, to continue shooting the man. The detainee died from those wounds.
Retired military lawyer Earle Partington said the loss of the witnesses could prove detrimental to the prosecution’s case against the pair.
“If these witnesses are no longer alive, there is no way for the accused or their counsel to question them. Unfortunately, it could mean that there is no trial,” Partington told the TV station. “Obviously, it depends on what witnesses the government still has.”
One of the boys that died, Matthew lived in our area. His mother mentioned the trial to a good friend of mine while in a local watering hole that locals “up the hill” gather in. The local paper, shockingly enough, does not mention the trial at all.
When I heard of this crash and the upcoming trial, I’m thinking its a no brainer – these guys were killed for the atrocities they were prepared to provide testimony too. It was an accident surely. (wink) How many copters have gone done in Iraq? Maybe two? Utter co-inky-dink. Surely.
The US is eating its own to cover for crimes directed from the top of this chain gang.
Oh and by the way, the highest ranking military official charged re Guantanamo and torture? HIS military tribunal gave him his free-to-go papers today.
I just spent 15 minutes searching for the story I heard on NPR today re this tribunal and it is NOT on THEIR WEBSITE! Let’s move along now. We don’t need to have documentation of the fact that the “few good men,” or “armies of one” are being giving their ticket to ride when it comes to torture.
Anyone have a bucket of sand I can bury my head in?
