Her presentation describes how it works:

Via: Good News Network:

A 14-year-old New York student was named “America’s Top Young Scientist” for inventing a solar-powered water jug that changes dirty water into purified drinking water.

Deepika Kurup not only surpassed 9 finalists with her science and math skills to win $25,000 from Discovery Education and 3M, she persuaded the judges with a dynamic five-minute LIVE presentation about the plight of a billion poor people who have no access to clean drinking water.

The cost effective and sustainable water-purification system, which harnesses solar energy to disinfect contaminated water uses her own innovative process designed to overcome current problems with portable purification. Her process can kill many types of bacteria in a fraction of the time of other methods.

    Hi Cryptogon Readers,

I sent this link to Kevin because holy shit, look at what this human is doing! Caring for others caused an invention to aid and abet other humans in their quality of life. I for one will investigate how to contribute to Deepika Kurup’s cause. I’ve seen this link posted on another site already via a link to Cryptogon. Readers please send this link around. Imagine if other 14 years olds were inspired to invent to the benefit of other humans. Peace All. And while Thanksgiving reminds me of the slaughter of native Americans, it is still a time, where traditionally peoples gather together. And that may be a good thing. Or not. Nonetheless, Happy Thanksgiving. This could be an act we do every day. Hmmm? Imagine.

Thanks Eileen. It is remarkable how inventing works when it’s a compassionate act rather than being driven by greed. Please update if you have more info. Clean water is one of the most important causes to work for right now.
