Stellarium

May 6th, 2012

We’ve been having some extremely clear nights recently and I wondered what some of the stars were called that I was looking at. I went looking for some sort of planetarium tool and found Stellarium, which is great!

Just set your coordinates and the software will display the sky as it looks in your location. You can move forward and backward in time as well. It shows nebulae, satellites, depictions of constellations and more.

If you’re like me, you’ll want to throw money at the screen. The donate link is at the bottom.

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope. It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.
