Local Cops Ready for War With Homeland Security-Funded Military Weapons

December 22nd, 2011

Via: Daily Beast:

Like Fargo, thousands of other local police departments nationwide have been amassing stockpiles of military-style equipment in the name of homeland security, aided by more than $34 billion in federal grants since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a Daily Beast investigation conducted by the Center for Investigative Reporting has found.

The buying spree has transformed local police departments into small, army-like forces, and put intimidating equipment into the hands of civilian officers. And that is raising questions about whether the strategy has gone too far, creating a culture and capability that jeopardizes public safety and civil rights while creating an expensive false sense of security.

On the other hand, it also means there are stockpiles of certain classes of weaponry there for the taking should “civil unrest” of some sort (or another) ever arrive on the mean streets of the USSA.

While I can see plenty of civil(ian) officers ready, willing and able to turn their arms on the population writ large, I’m also quite certain that not ALL of them will.

As atrophied and mutated by empirical propaganda as these individuals and their souls might be, many of them possess something resembling a conscience. A sense of moral purpose rooted far more deeply than all the conditioning — unless they’re Monarch-brand products, of course.

And more than a few of them will be holding key to these public/private armories assembled wits taxpayer dollars for less patriotic purposes.

Lest we forget, your typical sword design ALWAYS cuts both ways.

Another great reason to abolish the IRS. All of that money STOLEN from us is used mostly to harm us.
