DARPA Symposium Speakers Consider Implications of Contact with Aliens on Religion

The discovery of intelligent aliens would be mind-blowing in many respects, but it could present a special dilemma for the world’s religions, theologians pondering interstellar travel concepts said Saturday (Oct. 1).

Christians, in particular, might take the news hardest, because the Christian belief system does not easily allow for other intelligent beings in the universe, Christian thinkers said at the 100 Year Starship Symposium, a meeting sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to discuss issues surrounding traveling to other stars.

In other words, “Did Jesus die for Klingons too?” as philosophy professor Christian Weidemannof Germany’s Ruhr-University Bochum titled his talk at a panel on the philosophical and religious considerations of visiting other worlds.

“According to Christianity, an historic event some 2,000 years ago was supposed to save the whole of creation,” Weidemann said. “You can grasp the conflict.” [10 Alien Encounters Debunked]

Here’s how the debate goes: If the whole of creation includes 125 billion galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars in each, as astronomers think, then what if some of these stars have planets with advanced civilizations, too? Why would Jesus Christ have come to Earth, of all the inhabited planets in the universe, to save Earthlings and abandon the rest of God’s creatures?

  1. FAKE.

I smell a staged fake alien invasion.

    It’s in their documents!

Hmm, isn’t it interesting how they are specifically targeting Christianity? There must be something there then…

  2. Miraculix says:

It’s called the Hegelian Dialectic, StP.

On the one hand, you’ll have the “take me away” types, talking about trusting our galactic visitors and interstellar goodwill and such like.

To make the World Machine churn, an opposing force is required.

Much as electrons prefer pairing arrangements, a countervailing force is required to manifest interaction and create the minute imbalances that are behind universal quantum motion.

The Hegelian dialectic hitches it’s wagon to this essential truth. First, you define the opposing terms of the argument in such a way as to suggest a specific (set or class of) solution.

Then you drive the process inexorably forward, so as to make a decision seem mandatory, doing your damndest to perceptively manage both the nature of the discussion and the evolution of it’s terms.

I suspect institutional and just-plain-blinkered fundamentalist Christianity is viewed as a social counterbalance to the “believers” in alien benevolence.

In other words, one half of the larger argument slowly but steadily being pressed into play.

Aliens have arrived. We are not alone. A portal has opened into a larger sphere of existential life. Our anthropocentric models are now utterly obsolete. No way back. Only forward.

Who would you cast as the latest Luddites? The Yang to the Loving the Alien crowd’s Yin?

  3. Churchianity {a religious mythology} is being represented as Christianity {a system of law}. Jesus is the Kinsman Redeemer. The Covenant pertains to those made in His image, {and their descendents}, not aliens.

The Ox, Lion, Eagle and Man are representatives of the inhabitants of this planet. This is all that is effected by the Curse.

Christians must begin listening to their Saviour instead of “the commandments and doctrines of men”.

  4. I don’t get your scoffing quotation marks, Kevin. Surely DoD’s mandate extends to defending against aliens… no less so against random Gh0ds come down from the heavens, and not least against the terrible trauma to be wreaked upon the populace of the good-ol’ US-of-A upon having their metaphysical crutches ripped out from under them. We should rejoice! This conference will no doubt result in concrete plans to repel all of these extistential threats to our precious bodily fluids.

    Purity Of Essence!

  5. neologiste says:

“Did Jesus die for Klingons too?” ha!

this is the exact question i keep meaning to pose to my deeply-xtian parental units (who incidentally also believe in the existence of aliens). thanks for reminding me.

  6. neologiste says:

wait… i already know the answer they will give:

“just because He didn’t tell us about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!”

ugh. extrapolate that logic (to other parts of history/mythology/etc) as you will, they will never see the folly.

  7. “Why would Jesus Christ have come to Earth, of all the inhabited planets in the universe, to save Earthlings and abandon the rest of God’s creatures?”

There is an unsupportable assumption being made that others have been abandoned. Perhaps only the “Earthlings” need saving since only the “Earthlings” have been *lost* {appolumi = put away in punishment}.

  8. Jacques Vallee and J. Allen Hynek, both scientists who I think don’t believe in God (Vallee actually supports world government), top UFOlogists, have come to the conclusion that UFOs are a extraDIMENSIONAL and not extraTERRESTRIAL phenomena.

That further supports the Christian worldview that this phenomena is largely demonic. I had a demon once try to possess me in the wilderness as I lay in paralysis. Only the name of Jesus Christ made it disappear in an instant.

Also put together the Report from Iron Mountain and such that they will stage an alien landing (with the purpose of bringing all of humanity together against a common enemy).

Heh, my guess is the enemy would not be aliens but the return of Christ with his army. This is my analysis based on logic and research, not some “religious” brainwashing.

Heck I’ve been to Lucifer Publishing Company meetings where they discuss the return of their Lucifer Christ.

I don’t want to get too much into this but I do want to say a few things. Imma gonna do it bullet point style because of laziness:)

I heard a Coast to Coast interview in 2005 with a British guy who claimed to have ongoing contact with “visitors” A few things stood out to me.
    1. He said they were completely secretive about the exact location of their origin in the universe.
    2. They were just as secretive about their propulsion system.
    3. He said the message from the aliens was this: There is no God. They are our creators. And Jesus was an alien/human hybrid.
4.On the road to Damascus, Paul wasn’t knocked to the ground from a light in the sky from God, it was a spaceship.

With that in mind, I find these movie clips kinda revealing in the social programming aspect.

This one shows Nick Cage looking at depictions of scenes written about in the Bible.

This one shows Nick Cage falling on his knees in an Ezekiel kind of wonder at the appearance of the wheel within a wheel space craft.

And then when the aliens shed their human flesh appearance and show their spiritual true pure selves, complete with angel wings.

And here is a clip from Independence Day showing the alien space craft emerging from a biblical type image of smoke and fire.

Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.

And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people.

Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.
This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

I know that the Bible says “Our God is a consuming fire” and that the times recorded in the Bible of either fire or lightning coming out of the sky or heaven, it is either a sign of God’s power or God himself.

AND HERE IS THE MOST PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO INSINUATE THAT ALIENS OR UFO’S ARE REALLY GOD OR JESUS. AND FROM THE BEST UNBIASED NEWS SOURCE EVER! FOX NEWS:)
A little background is needed to understand the significance of what this reporter says…
The long of the short of it is the Zionist controlled evangelical church teaches that Jesus cannot come back until the temple is built where the Dome of the Rock is today, because that is where they say Jesus is going to come back, that he is going to descend from heaven to earth at that spot.

One more thing that I found very interesting, I was listening to coast to coast one night and there was a guy, can’t recall his name, that was present when the military was packing up the Roswell crash leftovers, getting ready to ship them to Wright Pat. And he was describing the material of the “ship” and all that. One thing he said that I thought was very interesting… he said that there were these big gel cubes that had the “alien bodies” suspended in them. He described the typical alien gray. He said he got real close and realized that he wasn’t looking at the alien, but at a biomechanical suit that housed the entity, and served to give the entity interface with the ship. He said the suit was hollow, and that it looked to house and energy being.
He also said the suit hooked into the ship somehow, and neither the suit or the ship had any controls on or in it, that the being itself was the navigation system of the ship.

Anyways, I am tired. Just some thoughts.

If I ever see a gray, probably won’t, but if I do, I am going to rip it’s effing biomechanical head off, literally. You guys will be the first to get the youtube link:)

I almost forgot…..the news clip from FOX, you gotta listen till at least 3:56 in the video to get the full import of the message they are trying to get to you.

For supposedly intelligent beings (I’m talking about the Earthlings here, not the aliens) they don’t seem to have thought this through in any particular depth.

If we might accept that a spritual being manifested itself in human flesh once upon a time, then why not elsewhere, on other planets, at other times? When the aliens come, with stories and legends of their own saviours and messiahs etc., are we supposed to wag our collective finger and proclaim that this couldn’t possibly be the same messiah of our own world? It doesn’t make any sense.

Anyway, I see the insidious meme at work already in our lives. Those of us freewheeling around not quite sure of who we are and what we stand for, we are the ones who gain identity and power from taking up oppositional positions to the xyz threat being touted around and eventually trotted out.

I’m going to go with Ballard (or was it Aldiss?): Earth is the alien planet. And we are the alien species.

  12. “It doesn’t make any sense.”

A Testament has conditions that must be met by the inheritors {by their fruits you shall know them}, not anyone that walks in off the street. If God makes Covenant with others, we are not required to meet its conditions, nor they ours.

Let us cross the bridge before us, and not fret over the one that ~may be~ light years away.
