49% of Americans Believe Federal Government “Poses an Immediate Threat to the Rights and Freedoms of Ordinary Citizens”

September 26th, 2011

Via: Gallup:

A record-high 81% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the country is being governed, adding to negativity that has been building over the past 10 years.

The findings are from Gallup’s annual Governance survey, updated Sept. 8-11, 2011. The same poll shows record or near-record criticism of Congress, elected officials, government handling of domestic problems, the scope of government power, and government waste of tax dollars.

I do believe people are “snapping out of it”, although, it is kind of amazing that only half the people have a clue. Probably because the government provides a living for the other half, you know: don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

Myself, I’m surprised that 49% figured it out.

Well, I had written a long comment, and then went back to re-read the article. They say it clearly.

“This view is much more pronounced among Republicans (61%) and independents (57%) than among Democrats (28%), although when George W. Bush was president, Democrats and independents were more likely than Republicans to view government as a threat.”

    Republicans hate Democrats.
    Democrats hate Republicans.
    And independents hate everyone.

I’d actually blame part of this hate on the campaigns being waged by the Republicans and Tea Partiers.

It’s a shame they weren’t tracking that question from late 2006 through late 2010. We may get a better impression of trends, rather than having a 4 year line attaching the two points. I suspect it may have shown a dip in the distrust when Obama came into office, but it’s spiking up now.
