Fukushima: 34,000 Children to Wear Radiation Dosimeters Around the Clock for Three Months

June 14th, 2011

This is a giant, open air radiation experiment. Human subjects, in vivo, in situ.

Government issued dosimeters? Oh sure. I wonder what will happen to the data…

Via: AFP:

Japan’s Fukushima city said on Tuesday it would hand radiation dosimeters to 34,000 children to gauge their exposure from the crippled nuclear power plant about 60 kilometres (40 miles) away.

The city will hand the measuring devices to all children aged between four and 15 for three months from September so that they can wear them around the clock, an official at the city’s education board told AFP.

The city is outside the government’s 20-kilometre (12-mile) evacuation and no-go zone around the tsunami-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, but many residents are concerned about radiation, he said.

“There have been fixed-spot radiation measurements but parents and citizens are concerned about individual exposure,” said the official.

“We also believe the distribution of dosimeters will help ease parents’ worries if they confirm their children’s exposure does not pose health risks.”

He added that radiation in the city had been below the official threshold for health risks, and said the children’s dosimeters would be read out once a month to assess cumulative radiation exposure.

the local governments (city/town/village) and the Fukushima Prefecture government are in a rock/hard place scenario. the central govt and its disgusting buraucrats don’t give a shit about anyone except their own pay check and ego. there is radioactive dust all over the place on the ground, on roofs, in gutters, inside houses and buildings. these places should have been evacuated of children long ago. but the central govt. says no, carry on, business as usual. lab rat experiment as you say… except the central govt isn’t interested in gathering “real” data. i saw on tv the other day they are doing raidiation measurements all over Fukushima BUT the measurements are ONLY taken 1m from the gound. ffs. they don’t want to know. it’s all fake, a show. they are only out to “create” data to prove everything is fine. the program in this article is fundamentally different because Fukushima CITY is doing it. they want REAL data. yes, they could ask all children to leave, but the central govt would totally rubbish them and shout that there is no evidence, blah, blah. so this is a genuine attempt to find out actual exposure levels. which is good, imho.

the horror i and many others feel in regards to the children and pre-pubescent young people experiencing this trauma cant really be overstated, but if anybody has seen the aftermath of chernobyl on the subsequent generations born after, they have some idea what is coming. some idea what starting a family is going to be for these people, young at the moment…

and to think, the decades of leukemia and other pediatric disease resulting from the 2 bombs we in america still cheer about today were slacking off.

i feel there is probably a great opportunity like w/ the diebold machines to show the scam for what it is, if anybody looks into the “monthly read outs” and the mechanisms used to get the data in/out of those dosimeters.

“We also believe the distribution of dosimeters will help ease parents’ worries if they confirm their children’s exposure does not pose health risks.” least they can do, stress is a killer dontchaknow

keeping my fingers crossed for some positive outcome to all this

    @tochigi

thanks for clearing that up, makes me feel better somewhat.

just thinking about all the corexit in the gulf and ash from the fires at the plant blowing all over the f#king world makes it really hard recently, also those plastic islands in the oceans. i just get huge cognitive dissonance thinking about the sympathy i feel for these people, and then contrast that w/ the reaction of the leadership, wheither through incompetance or worse. (whos arguing) somewhere in my mind i still connect the “leadership” as visible to the people, unrealistic i know.

maybe this extinguishing/neutralizing of human empathetic energy is becoming standard policy in the face of these sorts of disasters, maybe im just being paranoid, reminds me of 9/11 and the outporing of sympathy around the world before bush invaded Afghanistan and then iraq. maybe these emotions just make career bureaucrats intolerably uncomfortable and recent history is just an expression of that subconscious drive played out on a global scale. transforming love to hate, empathy to apathy, sympathy to disdain, kindness to cruelty.

Japan’s bureacratic systems—-large organisations in both the public and private sectors—-have always been its strength and weakness. the lack of effective mechanisms to correct the excesses and hubris of these systems is, imho, Japan’s great downfall. they are inherently de-humanising and eliminate dissent while creating frenzied momentum toward the objective deemed correct by the buraucracy’s central actors. these systems are incapable of stepping back and calmly looking at the big picture. they only focus on how to grab more resources and power for their own particular organization. this led to war in China in the 1930s and then war with the US. it has led to nuclear plants being bult on known earthquake fault lines and on coasts with histories of massive tsunami since records were kept (1500 years). it has led to children being kept in schools covered in radiactive dust. Japan is being killed, literally, by its own buraucracies. can Japan kill the buraucracies before it is too late? who knows…

    Like it.
    Disturbing.
    But what isn’t these days.
    Comment thread is INTERESTING.

I’m on the side of Israel blowing up Japan.
    But that’s just me.

I would also like to add that no matter what you take from the link I posted above, and whoever reads this,
you are here now to deal with this sh&t. Just like me and another gazillion on the planet.
I guess you could put your head between your knees and freak out in a Moonage Daydream, but that option I think, is no longer available.
My raid guage was full of “red stuff” which I take to be toxins. Have had various rain guages out there for years now. No RED crud caking the sides of the rain guage. My chickens are still running into the coop when it rains.
    Goos luxk to you all,
I’m offline for awhile. Not by choice. See you on the flip-flop.
