Soviet Republic of California: Teaching Credential Required to Home School Children

UPDATE: Schwarzenegger to Help Protect Homeschoolers from “Outrageous” Ruling?

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denounced a state appeals court ruling that severely restricts homeschooling and promised Friday to change the law if necessary to guarantee that parents are able to educate their children at home.

“Every California child deserves a quality education, and parents should have the right to decide what’s best for their children,” Schwarzenegger said in response to the ruling, which said children educated at home must be taught by a credentialed teacher.

“Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children’s education,” Schwarzenegger said. “This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts, and if the courts don’t protect parents’ rights then, as elected officials, we will.”

State Education Secretary David Long, a Schwarzenegger appointee, said that meant the governor supported allowing parents without teaching credentials to educate their children.

“The governor sees this as a fundamental right of parental choice,” he said.

Tell me another one.

California parents who don’t have teaching credentials no longer can home school their children, according to a recent state appellate court ruling.

“Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children,” Justice H. Walter Croskey wrote in a Feb. 28 opinion for the 2nd District Court of Appeals.

Noncompliance could lead to a criminal complaint against the parents, Croskey said.

An estimated 166,000 students in California are home schooled.

California has allowed home schooling if parents either file paperwork to establish themselves as small, private schools; hire a credentialed tutor; or enroll their child in an independent study program run by an established school while teaching the child at home.

Until now, the state has left it up to local school districts to enforce those provisions. The districts have done little.

Love that. Because, after all, it says right there in the Constitution that the State has the right to forcibly take people’s children away and indoctrinate them into the Grand Religion of Greed, Materialism, and Brutality. Oh, wait… it DOESN’T?! Imagine that.

We’ve got the top 1/10th of 1% controlling pretty much the entire country; exploding commodity — as in food and energy — prices; a burgeoning police state; a fascist executive aided and abetted by a lapdog legislature; and a military-industrial complex that would make Eisenhower swoon. But none of this has anything to do with the fact that, starting at a very young age, our kids are taught to sit down, shut up, do what you’re told, and if you want to speak, move, or pee, you have to ask permission from your overlord, for the next 12 years. (Gee, I wonder how that molds a young mind?) And the reward at the end of it is either 1) becoming part of that top 1/10th of 1% by selling your soul or 2) living for your mind-numbing job just so you can start the whole bleak cycle over again with your own kids.

“He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.” You said it, Adolf.

Yeah right tell me another one. It is the sorry state of education in California and especially the Los Angeles district – the LAUSD that is the sole cause for all these homeschoolers. The fact is the schools will continue to lose students to homeschools and they are upset because they get money for each and every ‘body’ they put in a seat. Is it any surprise the amount of high school grads who cannot speak or write proper English and do simple to medium math? That is a total fabrication that parents do not have the constitutional right to teach their children. WHat a crock of shit! It’s all about money, and it always has been. The LAUSD has some of the poorest test results in the country. It is the teachers and the districts themselves that cannot raise the standards of education in this state. Not all teachers are bad, I’m a firm believer in schools both public and private, but we’ve found with our own two kids that homeschooling wins out over all. The reasons the districts have done little enforcing is they don’t care and would rather see homeschoolers go away so they can get the bodies back in the classrooms and not lose money. Our oldest daughter who graduated high school – homeschooled – had gone back to middle school in 7th grade and basically unlearned everything she learned in the previous 2 grades, especially in Math & Science. Public school classes for the most part (not all) are catered to the lowest common denominator. Jay Leno’s Jaywalking anyone?? I know that he’s showing the worse but some of them ARE teachers!!! This just pisses me off to no end. Soviet Republic of California indeed!

From the sound of it, the comparison to the USSR may be a bit off-base. Even with all the awful communist crap that got poured into heads of Russian children during the Soviet era, they still got at least a passable education in “The 3 R’s”. Here in the Land of the Greed, you’ve got as much brainwashing along with no measurable educational benefit!

LOL! Therein lies the greatest irony of all. For all the drum-beating that teacher unions, and their symbiotic Skrewl Districts, make about “education” you have them pointing fingers at parents and complaining that they don’t get involved enough! They fail to see that they’re badgering, more than likely, the very product of the very system that they, these educratic socialists, support. The irony escapes them. And for what? For failing to live up to the phony education they were supposed to fake? When folks use intelligent initiative to escape from these de-education camps they’re then charged with neglect! Oy-vey!

Don’t laugh. I’ve heard enough bone-headed comments over the years along these very lines.
