Top Iraq Contractor Skirts U.S. Taxes Offshore

March 7th, 2008

Via: Boston Globe:

Kellogg Brown & Root, the nation’s top Iraq war contractor and until last year a subsidiary of Halliburton Corp., has avoided paying hundreds of millions of dollars in federal Medicare and Social Security taxes by hiring workers through shell companies based in this tropical tax haven.

More than 21,000 people working for KBR in Iraq – including about 10,500 Americans – are listed as employees of two companies that exist in a computer file on the fourth floor of a building on a palm-studded boulevard here in the Caribbean. Neither company has an office or phone number in the Cayman Islands.

This is SO SHREWD of DICK!

Uh, what exactly is the dividend on KBR stock these days?
Whatever it is, this MONEY HAS BLOOD ALL OVER IT. For sure.

The Caymans I used to love just went down the poop shoot for me. BE ASHAMED CAYMANITES!Harboring white collar criminals is NOT a way to invite ethical tourism. Have you seen Ken Lay lately? And KBR, no, I don’t think your employees are going to like it one bit that the time they spent slaving over a hot Iraqi stove is NOT going to COUNT towards their Social Security or Medicare rights in their retirement years. DICK, YOU ARE A MASTER CRIMINAL! TOUCHE! You’ve screwed everyone! The US taxpayer, and your employees! But DICK, get yourself a REAL JOB. Sucking off the teat and screwing the US Taxpayer is NOT in your JOB DESCRIPTION. But, I must admit, you are a master. I worry for your health lest your balls get too big!

If I can ever afford the time and money to scuba dive again I’ll go somewhere else. Though Cayman Brac, ohmygod. BEAUTY. QUIET. The Wall. Shiite!
    Beauty!

I have always wanted to see a Manta Ray in the Baja. This story clinches it for me.

Well to fix this we could make it so American citizens have to pay taxes even if they are working in a seperate country unless they have dual citizenship. Unfortunately this is nearly impossible to do within the constructs of international law, we would basically have to sign a treaty with every other nation in the world. Also it would lead to double taxation in most countries since only a few are tax havens.

In the article it says this:

“Senators Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat; Barack Obama, an Illinois Democrat; and Norm Coleman, a Minnesota Republican, are trying to pass the Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act, which would give the US Treasury Department the authority to take special measures against foreign jurisdictions that impede US tax enforcement.”

Makes me wonder what exacting “special measures” would constitute. We talking frozen funds or something a little more aggressive?

You may not realize it just now, but the methods used by the corporate state to be tax free are open to smart individuals as well. Why not use the laws? Who really needs to litigate another deep pocket corporation, just so the IRS can have more authority?
Get smart. Most of the citizens are fleeced by the taxman and hold others to account, making the robbery easier. Nullify the income tax application on your work; achieve freedom. Throw stones at a giant, better hit him in the eyes.
