The Organic Elite Surrenders to Monsanto: What Now?

January 29th, 2011

Via: Organic Consumers:

In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto’s Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation’s 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America’s organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal. A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield Farm, has decided it’s time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto’s controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for “coexistence” with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

    Thanks Dilinger,

For sending this article in. I read an abbreviated version of it earlier today and it was on my list to find and read.

I am going to Boycott Organic Valley, Stoneyfield Farms, and W(HOLE) Markets. BOYCOT!

I’m disgisted with the U.S.: they promotion of soy and abiity to sell Frankenfood as real food, as opposed to the EU. Sigh. Money and profits rule here in the U.S. and its making me sick to think on. BARF.

What a crock. I could cut and paste something from every paragraph of this article as an expression of my OUTRAGE.

While I don’t buy Stonybrook anymore because of the sugar and that cow’s milk yogurt (even plain) is too heavy for my digestion, their buy in to this BS is DEEPLY disapointing to me.

(W)Hole Foods has NEVER been a convenient, or affordable place to buy “what I call” food. The supposedly organic produce selection has been largely non-existent and when available, overpriced.

Here in Western PA, in the winter season, we do better with organic produce at the Giant Eagle or at local organic food stores. Even then, its winter and food comes from far away.

No food comes without cost, even if you grow your own. And though I try to grow lettuce under greenhouse conditions in winter, its not an easy or cheal thing to do.
What I will be doing is forwarding this article to anyone I know who cares about the food they eat.
It should be a CRIME that Monsanto seeds even exist. Let alone pollute our food stream. And that corporations, once again, are concerned with profitability as opposed to GOOD FOOD TO HUMANKIND IS A CRIME.

I just learned about the Monsanto NEW LEAF POTATO this week. Don’t know what planet I was living on when THAT came out! FEEDING PEOPLE POISON IS OKAY here in the U.S.

CRIMINAL. NEED SOME PRISON CELLS FOR THE TWERPS.
