As the privacy controversy around full-body security scans begins to simmer, it’s worth noting that courthouses and airport security checkpoints aren’t the only places where backscatter x-ray vision is being deployed. The same technology, capable of seeing through clothes and walls, has also been rolling out on U.S. streets.

Is anyone aware of countermeasures, such as jamming or shielding?

At first I thought I heard this wrong – “The radiation levels are very low, the equivalent to the exposure passengers would receive if they flew in an airplane for 15 minutes”. There actually is a form of radiation encountered in high-ish altitude flight… but why equate the two? To me, it put the image of airports and airport scanners in my mind, but I had to listen twice to make it make sense. I wonder which airplane you have to be in for 15 minutes to get that dose, SR-71 perhaps?

How long will we have to wait before there’s Hollywood movie where bank robbers use this technology to plan their heist? Seems perfect for it.
