BP Photoshopping Images
July 22nd, 2010“If you’re not monitoring it independently, you’re asking the perpetrator to give you the video of the crime scene.”
—James Cameron on BP Oil Spill
With the initial batch of Photoshopped images, I thought, “BP lies. Thanks, Captain Obvious.” This new one, though, is hilarious.

This week it came to light that BP had photoshopped—poorly—an official image of their crisis command center. Apparently, that wasn’t an isolated incident. Let’s take a closer look at this view from a helicopter, shall we?
The photo, sent in by a tipster and entitled “View of the MC 252 site from the cockpit of a PHI S-92 helicopter 26 June 2010,” shows up here, a section of BP’s website that hopes to explain their response effort through pictures. This one, sadly, is fabricated.
I read through the whole piece and the comments and readers’ photoshops too – too many laugh out loud moments!
Nobody seemed to have noticed that the pilot on the left appears to be crossing his fingers (we’ll neatly sidestep the fact that both pilots appear to be holding pre-flight checklists and neither have their hands on their sticks….)
I looked at this today when I shouldn’t have been doing so and about peed my pants and was laughing out loud at all of the photos attached in the comments.
So good to see that regular folk, us humans (as opposed to the tbtb), pretty much get what a disaster this is, but have found very constructive ways of coping with a mental and emotional drama that I wish Carl Jung were here to interpret for us re our collective consciousness.
Absent a more “serious” approach, which I am not sure is necessary, Humor Rocks. Thank you so much for posting this Kevin. I’m going to go look at it all again before I go to sleep. Awesome post. 5 stars.
kevin,
awesome laugh you gave here,
I loved thie.
The stars, like it was the Starship Enterprise going into warp.
If this thread keeps on going with more miraculous wit, please update.
WHAT A GIFT. THANK YOU!
