“If the sea floor doesn’t crack”

The oil has stopped. For now. After 85 days and up to 184 million gallons, BP finally gained control over one of America’s biggest environmental catastrophes Thursday by placing a carefully fitted cap over a runaway geyser that has been gushing crude into the Gulf of Mexico since early spring.

Though a temporary fix, the accomplishment was greeted with hope, high expectations — and, in many cases along the beleaguered coastline, disbelief. From one Gulf Coast resident came this: “Hallelujah.” And from another: “I got to see it to believe it.”

If the cap holds, if the sea floor doesn’t crack and if the relief wells being prepared are completed successfully, this could be the beginning of the end for the spill. But that’s a lot of ifs, and no one was declaring any sort of victory beyond the moment.

This report is so absurd and so beyond belief. Such a freaking lie. Give me a break.
Sure, the oil has stopped gushing beyond comprension where the camera is filming. But how so much oil could be gushing into the Gulf from a six inch pipe means there is another leak NOT ON CAMERA.
This is another lie foisted on the sheeple. Another “Be Happy” message. Let’s just stop sending BAD NEWS out to the sheeple for a time so they stop freaking out about the end of driving my car and loud motorcyle where I want to and wherever I want to and damn the consequences. Maybe people will feel its SAFE and STaRT SHoPPing again.
Don’t believe this spin for a second. Its just bullshit to placate the sheeple, keep BP’s stock price from diving down as far as their well in the Gulf.
Humans are not stupid creatures. I’ve been to Florida twice since the gusher started, and both times I went to say GOODBYE to the Gulf as it was before this.
My remaining family lives in Tampa. They went to the beach – Passagrille- last weekend to say goodbye again.
Their report of that visit was astounding: although they have been in Florida some 30 or more years, they have NEVER seen SO MANY PEOPLE at this beach. Wall to WALL.
I am encouraged by this. That so many people may finally be “getting” that a day at the beach might not be something to take for granted anymore. That there are DirE consequences from our use of oil. Oil is everywhere in our lives. Inocuous.
I’ve started thinking about the stuff in my life. From plastic containers, bags, yadda, yadda, yadda. Oil is everywhere and in everything and I think its about time that its NOT.
That’s my goal. Off plastic. Thinking of looking for biodiesel car. Not many choices for transportation here, but off oil is the goal.
    Same as it ever was!
