Open Thread: Various BP Oil Spill Theories

May 25th, 2010

Want to discuss BP oil spill theories that are percolating though the rumor sphere? Go for it here.

I’ve seen all of the ones that you guys have submitted (and then some!), but I can’t find any sources that I feel are worth mentioning here.

This is not to say that I think we’re getting the full picture from the corporate media on this cataclysm. As per routine, it’s probably not that bad, it’s worse. But, from long experience, I avoid posting stuff from sites that generate in excess of 95% noise and rat poison, consider Sucha Fool to be an authoritative source of information and have roll playing/social engineering games running as factual threads (complete with teams of trolls egging on the peanut gallery).

However, there is that other 5% of information that might represent legitimate signal… Think you have a grip on that 5%, well, shine on you wild diamond. This is the place.

If you want to mention something about the sea floor, the alleged looped video, space based beam weapons, etc. go for it.

The looped video is a little too over the edge for me because it would be so easy to prove, but the idea that the pipe is eroding make pretty good sense to me. The doomsday scenario where the pipe goes and then the oil/gas/sand mixture starts eroding away at the edges of the old bore hole is what concerns me the most. If that is indeed happening, we won’t be talking about 10s of millions of crude in the gulf, but rather a few billion.

I put nothing past these bastards. I about fell out of my chair early on, when I saw our old friends from Haliburton were in on this one too. Now, with the government basically doing nothing but covering for their paymasters (i.e. the oil industry, and their friends), I’ve got to wonder whats next.

One thing that is apparent to me is that despite all of their reassurances, neither the government or the oil companies had any plan whatsoever about what to do if they lost one of these deep sea rigs.

I read a thread on Fark.com last night which mentioned the looped video theory. Someone in the thread posted the instructions on how to discover for yourself if the video is being looped.

The instructions were given by “Mr.Sharpy” at this thread This Thread.

i have not yet formed an opinion on whether this site is a bunch of ridiculous (though detailed) blathering or something much scarier, but as on most topics, ‘they’ have an insight into this oil disaster:

    http://www.zetatalk.com/newsletr/issue185.htm

on another note, my parents actually asked me whether i had ‘heard that *they* think the oil spill was a north korean terrorist attack?’

considering my dear, foolish folks get their news EXCLUSIVELY from fox (6 hours a day, at least), they could only have heard it there. wtf? anyone else catch that story?

I don’t have any source to quote on “what is really occuring” with the oil spill.
My thoughts? We don’t even know what creatures live on our planet a mile deep in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). Before this spill, I did not know that the GoM was so deep!
This is certainly a kill off event for the deep ocean floor. Methinks the deep ocean floor is similar to the rain forests in the Amazon. As Joni Mitchell wrote: ” we don’t know what til its gone.”
Most certainly, when the critters that we don’t even know about down there are suffocated to death by this oil, and die a painful death, something in the universe will be weeping, wailing, and gnashing their teeth. Wonder if the MSM will give due time on TV to the critters who become floaters (maybe?) and wash up on shore?
    Dunno.
I am thinking that my family from Florida will be moving in with me here in PA before the year is up. I see their journey here as one being very difficult. A mass migration from Florida?
They called Northerner’s “snowbirds.” Should we call those fleeing this cataclysm a name?
    Methinks not. No name required.
I dunno, no matter how weird and strange and scary this gets, I believe we all chose and agreed to fulfill some soul purpose by living through these times. And I certainly don’t know how this is all going to turn out for any of us.
I tend to think that humankind is being forced by this oil spill to change their way of life.
In some ways the change will be forced, in other ways by choice.
I would think if you like seafood, you better go buy some for posterity. Something to drag out on the holidays. That is really sick sounding, I know. But fugged about seafood. Its the End of the World As We Know It for that type of food.
Just feeling kind of sick thinking about all of critters being smothered to death with oil and dispersants. Gives a whole new meaning to me about squashing a bug. What role does that bug I am killing serve in the universe?
Don’t know what this oil spill will do to my family – who live in Tampa, FL. I wonder if they will understand when its time to leave; or whether they will poo-poo my concerns for them just like everything else?
Dunno! Meanwhile, back here at the ranch, Trying to figure out how many Southerner’s I can take on board here with couches, cots, beds, and mattresses. This one is nothing even close to the shit storms I’ve seen before.
No one can change that they’ve chosen to live through these times.
Get what joy you can over the very awesome fact that “YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES.”

@neologiste Rush Limbaugh was chattering about the North Koreans early on, I don’t listen to his show, but my understanding is he was ‘thinking out loud’ and this was but one of his many ideas.

@Eileen Many good pts about the availability of seafood and the death of the gulf for a generation. As for it impacting Floridians, it depends what line of work they are in. Florida is a big place. I live 35 miles east of Tampa, I haven’t seen or smelled the Ocean in at least 10 years if not longer. Even Tampa other than downtown isn’t very close to the ocean and will be little impacted by the spill. As for Tampa Bay, it was already a sewer and if BP oil ends up in it, it will be worse but right now I wouldn’t touch a thing that came out of its waters, so in my view it is just a matter of degree how much damage will be done there.

  6. Zenc says:

@RobertS Your comment to Eileen made me recall that just after the initial disaster and when the surface slick had formed, there were reports of a strange chemical odor here in the Tampa/St.Pete area that many believed where related to or cause by the oil.

The “official” determination was that the slick was not to blame, but now I have to wonder when BP started using Corexit or other dispersants and whether or not there there’s some connection.

You’re right about the Bay and its unfitness for providing safely consumable seafood products. Regardless of what guidelines the authorities have issued, I’m confident that the powerplants on the Bay put out too much mercury for safe consumption and that the Alafia and Manatee Rivers carry too much nastiness in from the Phosphate mining operations which are in their watersheds.

On the North Korea angle, the first mention of it that I recall seeing was this article, which is dated May 1st: [ADMIN EDIT: Don’t link to this nonsense on my site. Thanks. See: David Booth.]

Attributed to Sorcha Faal, so its not particularly credible, in my book.

  7. Zenc says:

    @Kevin

    Hahahaha!

Hey, at least I tried to point out that it wasn’t credible.
