Oregonians called Peter DeFazio’s office, worried there was a conspiracy buried in the classified portion of a White House plan for operating the government after a terrorist attack.

As a member of the U.S. House on the Homeland Security Committee, DeFazio, D-Ore., is permitted to enter a secure “bubbleroom” in the Capitol and examine classified material. So he asked the White House to see the secret documents.

On Wednesday, DeFazio got his answer: DENIED.

“I just can’t believe they’re going to deny a member of Congress the right of reviewing how they plan to conduct the government of the United States after a significant terrorist attack,” DeFazio says.

Homeland Security Committee staffers told his office that the White House initially approved his request, but it was later quashed. DeFazio doesn’t know who did it or why.

“We’re talking about the continuity of the government of the United States of America,” DeFazio says. “I would think that would be relevant to any member of Congress, let alone a member of the Homeland Security Committee.”

Bush administration spokesman Trey Bohn declined to say why DeFazio was denied access: “We do not comment through the press on the process that this access entails. It is important to keep in mind that much of the information related to the continuity of government is highly sensitive.”

Norm Ornstein, a legal scholar who studies government continuity at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, said he “cannot think of one good reason” to deny access to a member of Congress who serves on the Homeland Security Committee.

“I find it inexplicable and probably reflective of the usual, knee-jerk overextension of executive power that we see from this White House,” Ornstein said.

This is the first time DeFazio has been denied access to documents. DeFazio has asked Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., to help him access the documents.

“Maybe the people who think there’s a conspiracy out there are right,” DeFazio said.

We all may know what the plans are, soon enough.

  2. I would say probably “New Detention Camps” is not how they will be referred to, but possibly as “Communications Management Units”.

    An interesting article:
Dr. Rafil A. Dhafir at Terre Haute Prison’s New Communications Management Unit.

I used to work downtown Houston, TX down the road from KBR (even interviewed with them in the past) Halliburton’s contract was awarded BEFORE 9/11.

Brown & Root Services, a division of Kellogg Brown & Root, Arlington, Va., is being awarded Task Order 0014 for $7,000,000 under a previously awarded cost-reimbursement, indefinite-delivery and indefinite-quantity construction contract (N62470-00-D-0005) for construction of a detention camp, Phase II, at the Radio Range area of U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Units will be of modular steel construction. Each unit measures approximately 6 feet 8 inches by 8 feet and includes a bed, a toilet, and a hand basin with running water. Work will be performed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and is to be completed by May 2002. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The basic contract was competitively procured with 44 proposals solicited, three offers received and award made on June 29, 2000. The total contract amount is not to exceed $300,000,000, which includes the base period and four option years. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic Division, Norfolk, Va., is the contracting activity.

Lonewolf, Isn’t government contracting udderly amazing? So udderly non-transparent. And about as useful as tits on bull if you aren’t looking at the animal. Wonder who the 44 responders were? Yes sir ree Bob. We will build your prison at Guantanamo to spec, just like others built Aushwitz, no questions asked if the PRICE IS RIGHT. Need a crematorium? NO PROBLEM. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Might as well put the contract solicitation out now. US Government looking for innovative methods to dispose of excess quantities of “fly ash.” Looking for technologies beyond previous methods that included the use of “fly ash ” for soap and lampshades.

    Lonewolf,
I meant to say who were the 44 the bid was sent to.

A friend of mine wrote this after I sent him this article..I thought it was pretty well written and thought I’d share..:

This doesn’t surprise me at all. 9/11 was staged. We have seen our rights taken away and Executive Order of the 17th for removing property rights is another way of seizing funds. Or as the common man
calls it – stealing. Legally of course.

12 Daily Pro is a great example of corruption. Here we have a lady running a Ponzi scheme. Then the government comes in when they see what a golden goose it is and seizes it. Then they administer a handful of people to “administer the funds”. They will bleed the fund dry until they are gone. Take another well known politician running for president, for example. He set up a fund for the widows of 9/11. They raised over 100 million dollars. Then he would not release the funds. He appointed five people including his mistress to administer the funds. Well guess what, after two years they had drained over 50 million from the fund and they still have not released any of the money to the widows. Why oh why do people continue to support this country?

Yes the end of this country as we know it is coming. A dictatorship is on the horizon. I have no doubt about it. It may come in a year, it may be five years, but it is coming. All the chess pieces are being put in place against the American people. Taking away our rights, security laws, etc. When the time is right – “checkmate”. Game over.

Think of it this way. 200 years ago there were only one billion peoplein the world. Now today there are over 6.5 billion. You need energy,
land for people and food and governments to support and or control them. Imagine over 100 thousand people crossing the border looking for
food. It will be like a plague of locusts.

I also have no doubt that the people in charge know what is really going on. World overpopulation, food shortages, global warming and
everything else. Anything like preserving resources or helping the environment costs them money and they see the end as inevitable. They
are just making things sweeter for themselves before everything falls apart.
