Via: The Defender:

Novavax is offering parents up to $3,000 to enroll their children in the vaccine maker’s Phase 2/3 COVID-19 vaccine trial for infants and children ages 6 months to 11 years. The offer also includes a stuffed animal for each child.

The “Hummingbird” trial is testing two primary shots and a booster shot of Novavax’s adjuvanted recombinant spike protein nanoparticle vaccine in children. The study, which began in 2022, is enrolling 3,600 children.

The study, which began in the U.S., is expected to run through 2025 and will be conducted in the U.S. and other countries.

The children will receive three injections and visit the clinic eight times.

Israel: ‘Humanitarian Pauses’ in Gaza Fighting for Children to be Vaccinated Against Polio

August 30th, 2024

In other Israeli humanitarian news from Gaza: Israel’s Military Blew Up More Than 30 Water Wells in Gaza in July:

Israel’s military blew up more than 30 water wells in Gaza this month, a municipality official and residents said, adding to the trauma of airstrikes that have turned much of the Palestinian enclave into a wasteland ravaged by a humanitarian crisis.

Salama Shurab, head of the water networks at Khan Younis municipality, said the wells were destroyed by Israeli forces between July 18-27 in the southern towns of Rafah and Khan Younis.

The Israeli military did not respond to the allegations that its soldiers destroyed the wells.

And now…

Via: Daily Mail:

Israel has halted some of its military operations in Gaza to allow health workers to launch a polio vaccine drive for some 640,000 Palestinian children.

The humanitarian agreement struck last week will see Israel’s Defence Forces observe three staggered pauses of fighting in central, southern and northern Gaza, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) officials.

Pentagon Approves Additional Support to Secret Service for Election Campaigns

August 30th, 2024

Via: Reuters:

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved a request to provide the Secret Service with additional military support capabilities for presidential and vice presidential candidates for the upcoming election, the Pentagon and the Secret Service said separately on Thursday.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh did not provide details on the type of support that would be provided but said Austin had directed U.S. Northern Command to plan and provide support to the Secret Service at various locations during the election.

A Secret Service spokesperson said later the Secret Service has strengthened its protective operations following the July 13 Pennsylvania rally of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in which the former president was shot and survived an assassination attempt.

“As part of this effort, the Department of Defense is providing the U.S. Secret Service with additional assistance including logistics, transportation, and communications, through the 2024 campaign season,” the Secret Service spokesperson said.

Blacklisted News Closes Down

August 30th, 2024

I read Blacklisted News most days for at least a decade. We often got links from each other. Doug is one of Cryptogon’s top financial contributors. (He never asked me to run that ad in the the rotation in the upper right corner of Cryptogon, by the way.)

I wish Doug all the best with his new project: BaxterIsland.com

Take care, brother!

To all of the readers of Blacklisted News:

This message is to thank you all and to let you know that after 18 years online, I will no longer be publishing Blacklisted News.

It was a very hard decision, but I am confident that it is the right one.

Meanwhile, in Aurora, Colorado

August 29th, 2024

Via: New York Post:

A shocking video shows a crew of gun-wielding men storm through a Colorado apartment building reportedly overrun by a dangerous Venezuelan prison gang.

The group of heavily armed men — including three armed with handguns and one with a rifle — enter the troubled apartment complex in the Denver suburb of Aurora and break into a unit, the clip obtained by KDVR shows.

The footage was captured earlier this month, shortly before a shootout at the complex, The Edge at Lowry, severely injured one person and damaged multiple cars, according to the local news station.

Directly east of Denver, Aurora has seen a flood of migrants itself — and crimes attributed to Tren de Aragua, a prison gang originating in the Aragua region of Venezuela.

CIA And FBI Spread Disinformation And Interfered In 2020 Presidential Election

August 28th, 2024

Via: Michael Shellenberger:

Many people saw the letter that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent to Rep. Jim Jordan earlier this week as old news. In 2022, Zuckerberg told Joe Rogan that Facebook had limited the spread of the New York Post story about the Hunter Biden laptop in response to information from the FBI. “The FBI basically came to us and was like, ‘Hey, you should be on high alert. We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election; we have it on notice that basically, there’s about to be some kind of dump that’s similar to that.’”

In fact, Zuckerberg’s letter went further than what he told Rogan in 2022 because he specifically mentioned Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company Hunter Biden worked for. Zuckerberg wrote, “the FBI warned us about a potential Russian disinformation operation about the Biden family and Burisma in the lead up to the 2020 election.”

As a result of this, I now feel comfortable saying that the evidence is overwhelming that both the FBI and CIA violated a surveillance law, spread disinformation, and deliberately interfered in the 2020 election.

Nobody at the FBI or CIA has gone to prison or even been properly investigated for their crimes. And yet the evidence shows that the FBI and CIA broke the Wiretap Act and the Hatch Act of 1939, which prohibits federal employees from using their official authority or influence to interfere with or affect the outcome of an election.

Britain: Government Funded Group Explores Using Psychological Propaganda to Make People Eat Bugs

August 28th, 2024

Via: Modernity News:

A UK government-backed group is exploring how to use “nudge” tactics (psychological propaganda) to convince the population to start eating insects.

The National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC), which is funded by UK Research and Innovation, a government quango, is trying to sell the public on “meat alternatives” in the name of reducing carbon emissions as part of the UK’s net zero agenda.

Prof Anwesha Sarkar, from the University of Leeds, where the research centre will be based, told the Telegraph: “We want to make alternative proteins mainstream for a more sustainable planet.”

That diet includes “mince created from crickets” and various insects ground up into something that “looks like a burger.”

Knowing that the public has an innate revulsion to eating insects, added to studies that show consuming bugs can be toxic because they contain parasites, the group effectively admits it will have to brainwash people to buy them.

That will take the form of the government and industry using “nudging techniques, or public information campaigns” in order “to persuade people to swap their steak for a plant-based or lab-grown alternative, such as nudging techniques, or public information campaigns.”

The UK government’s infamous ‘nudge unit’ was previously used to inflate fear amongst the public during the COVID pandemic to force them into compliance, a process that was deemed “grossly unethical” by psychologists.

“Human Brain Organoid Bioprocessors Now Available to Rent for $500 Per Month”

August 28th, 2024

The argument is that it’s power efficient, but is it capable of any practical applications?

Via: Tom’s Hardware:

FinalSpark, the firm behind Neuroplatform, has begun to offer paid 24/7 remote access to its bioprocessors. In May, we reported on these pioneering human brain organoid-based processors and their touted million times greater power efficiency when compared to digital processors. Now we note that academic customers can get access to this biocomputing platform, featuring four shared organoids, for $500 per user per month (or even free, for selected projects).

Neuroplatform claims to be the world’s first online platform delivering access to biological neurons in vitro. The neuron-packed organoids are capable of learning and processing exceptionally efficiently. FinalSpark hopes that adopting bioprocessors based on biological neurons rather than transistors could significantly impact the incredible energy expenditure we often hear about in the tech world. Saving billions of watts when training LLMs or other intensive tasks should also be a positive for the environment.
