“Tech is dead. I’m done.”

June 5th, 2024

I’m not sure if this is satire or not, but it contains a lot of truth and his deadpan delivery is hilarious.

His video reminds me of the humor in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest turned inside out, where the hero isn’t defeated but slips through the cracks like a street urchin or a guerilla. But that outcome may only be possible in his video, since the wormhole he says he’s using is a global corporate ponzi scheme sucking up your cash, like the stock market, like every bill you get.

There is an “attention economy”. But it is a bubble. When it pops, you can’t eat your app or drink your bitcoin. I guess you could keep warm for a few minutes by burning your paper money, if you have kept any. But, if you’re growing your own food and firewood, you are in a sector of the overall economy that never bursts — it may get poisoned or burned down, but it won’t collapse from any inherent flaw.

He doesn’t go there. He describes the threats to techie employment but omits a viable escape plan — unless he hopes the gullible will buy more bitcoin so he can cash even more out of it, if he really is in it.

His motivation maybe obscure, but his video is brilliant.

    Ouch.
