State Department Orders Site to Take Down Photos of $592 Million U.S. Embassy In Iraq
June 1st, 2007Winning hearts and minds, now with obscene embassy/palace.

On Tuesday, ThinkProgress highlighted photos of the U.S. embassy in Iraq, which is set to open in September. Projected to cost $592 million, the embassy will have a staff of 1,000 people and operating costs will total $1.2 billion a year. The complex will be 104 acres, which is the size of approximately 80 football fields.
The architectural firm designing the embassy, Berger Define Yaeger, recently posted the designs for the colossus on its website (which is currently down). Today, the State Department ordered Berger to remove the images. AP reports:
Detailed plans for the new U.S. Embassy under construction in Baghdad appeared online Thursday in a breach of the tight security surrounding the sensitive project. […]
The images were removed by Berger Devine Yaeger Inc. shortly after the company was contacted by the State Department.
Sure, we all know the convention wisdom is that it is being removed for “security concerns.” But, we all know that the truth is that this monstrous boondoggle has become yet another political embarassment.
It’s not a “boondoggle” or a “political embarassment” to them . . . no embarassment at all – – things are going along as planned in the Hegelian/Straussian manner in which they operate, the Neo-con Pentagon et. al. went into Iraq to build three mega military bases, which has been done and which will stand for the next half a century . . . the U.S.A., regardless of who “wins” the phoney election in 2008 and thereafter will not be leaving the area short of a revolution in the U.S.A (the building of this fort/embassy also reflects this) which revolution, other than the ongoing fascist revolution, will not be happening. The corporatists “running” the government could care less what the plebes, err citizens, want (ask Cindy Sheehan) and the imperial occupation will continue as long as there are trillions in oil reserves to covet to sell back home for $4.00 plus a gallon to the ever poorer average Amerikan who is busy having a beer and watching Amerikan Idol in between internet porn . . . as the stock market “surges” on the evening “news” whatever that means anymore to anyone other than the the top 5% of the population . . . .
When I first heard of this, last year about this time, I said to myself “Damn! Now here is the story that should be reported from the rooftops. The US will never leave”. Not a peep. Not even a loud yawn was heard in the press. The few stories that ran all sounded the same and then that was it. Nix. Nada. Now it surfaces again, like Moby Dick, and as soon as the details are revealed, for the slaves that paid for it, its torpedoed on the “security” canard. Where are the Congress-critters? Aren’t they going to debate this some night soon? Or will these co-consipirators quickly sweep it under the rug as they’ve dutifully done all along? What kind of lunatics would build the biggest embassy ever in the most dangerous city on the planet IF they ever planned on leaving? I think we already know the answer.
The surviving parents and spouses of our young men in women dying in Iraq for the Halliburtons and Oil Barons are starting to be haunted by the frightening suspicion that their loved ones died not for a noble cause but for no good reason other than greed and power of the few.
Oh man, Iraqi militants and suicide bombers are salivating over this place. You couldn’t pay me enough to work security at the front gates military or not you gotta be crazy to work there. They should have waited a few more years to build an embassy in Iraq. I bet it has a hell of an insurance policy.
The real question is: Will this be a McDonalds/Pepsi/Haliburton exclusive establishment?
