OBAMA CALLS FOR SYRIAN PRESIDENT TO STEP DOWN

August 18th, 2011

Is the U.S. going to drag NATO into bombing Syria—for the children? World War III for economic growth?

How’s that thing in Libya working out for Mr. Hopey Changey?

Via: New York Times:

President Obama called on Thursday for the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, to leave power, and issued a new executive order providing for additional sanctions. It is the first time the United States has explicitly called for Mr. Assad’s departure from power.

“For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside,” Mr. Obama says in the statement issued by the White House.

Let me retype my initial verbal comment on this. Yes, I said it to the monitor.

“What the fuck? Is he going to drag us into another fucking war?”

Let me check the score card. The United States is in active military actions in:

Afghanistan, Colombia, Iraq, Libya, Mexico, Pakistan, Yemen.

I may have missed a few. My apologies. The list is basically anywhere that we’re using military force, not limited to soldiers and drone aircraft.

Somewhere in the US Constitution does it say “World Police”? Somewhere in the UN charter, does it say “If they don’t play be the US rules, they should be coerced. Upon failure of that, attacked to destroy the sitting government, and replace it with one pleasing to the US.”? If someone can find those, I’d be impressed. Well, depressed. there’s a whole lot of -essed words that fit in well there.
