Codex Alimentarius was a phrase new to me. googling it up was enlightening. thank you scarletfire.

another reply, made by kevin, where he mentioned an ethic of 'know your farmer' brought something to mind i'd seen in the Livejournal Libertarianism community re: wickard v. filburn.
http://community.livejournal.com/libertarianism/2553904.html
i don't know if he's accurate or oversimplifying or what, but i do know we desperately need to localize and decorporatize everything, and most especially food. of course of course. so i'm slowly seeing how behind i am on these matters.

@Eileen

There are A LOT of people who have exactly the same perspective as your Amish friend.

You're practicing "Know your farmer" which is a hell of a lot more reliable than organic could ever be.

Certification makes sense for medium to large producers who want to earn a premium by selling into urban retail environments. For smaller producers, it seems like far, far more hassle than it's worth.

I asked my Amish farmer who sells me grass fed beef, raw milk and butter (my lifeline for health these days) why he was not being certified organic?
His answer?
Why give the government money to pronounce my food acceptable/good - he said "I know it is." We had just been to a meeting where he and went on a Saturday to a meeting with a low show for his trying to start up a CSA. I don't give his reply justice.
But I think this is the issue of the bill: DeLauro sees there is a buck to be made requiring all people like my Amish friend to comply with their fuck-u-la-tions.

I I didn't get anything when I went to the link for Dem Rep DeLauro from Connecticut. Wonder what kind of bug flew up her ass after attending a farmer's market? Didn't know how to use a job johnny or what? Guess she's never been to a rock concert either where you stand in lines of fifty deep for 10 outhouses.
I'm not even going to bother reading her gerd darn "food bill."
Monkey's will fly out of DeLauro and everyone eles ass before this m'effer even comes up for a vote.
Do these people "elected" have anything better to do? Could it just please be mandatory that they enter an ashram or some similar detox facility for at least 6 weeks/90 days before they are allowed to submit legislation?
Duh, connect with their inner being and as a consequence, those that surround them; Jesus be praised, their constituents? Go to the right of Connecticut on an atlas and there is Rhode Island. According to my dear friend, this state will be totally self sufficient food wise no matter what comes down the pike. Grass fed beef, gardening for fresh food, and the sea for fish.
Hmph. This bitch oops from Connecticut. Yes, I think anyone who had the time could find connections to BIG FOOD contributing to her campaign. What a waste of time her bill is.
Kevin, there is a really big black margin on left side of screen tonight.

I was looking at this as well as the Codex Alimentarius and wondering what you thought of it so thank you for reading my mind (it's happened before too- ancient archaeology was on my mind when you posted the piece about the temple in Turkey). i would love it if you had any commentary on the Codex itself as I saw a video once by a nutritionist that stated the W.H.O's own documents state that implementation of the Codex would result in 3 billion deaths by starvation.
Now even I found that hard to believe, or at least hard to believe that the W.H.O. would admit to such a thing and still support the Codex. So any and all opinions on the subject would be most welcome.
I know the elite are worried about over population (club of rome- limits to growth, etc...) but this seams to be over the top evil even for them (if it's true).
Peace out all!

A goddamned shame. I'm looking into making a business out of organic farming here in Argentina, actually talking with another Cryptogon reader who's got more experience with the implementation side. I figure Argentina can sell transgenic bullshit to the rest of the world, and with that money people can buy locally grown real food. Yet another reason to leave the Northern Hemisphere ASAP.

I can't help think this is a prelude (one of many, no doubt) to America's "harmonizing" (I think that's the term) with Codex Alimentarius.
