I wonder what will be written in history that Cheney may be the only executive in history that TOLD US that HE did not have divest himself of his corporate ties as re his role as VP?
If Cheney didn't learn from the banana republic invading days from his elders - you know, how to invade a country and make a profit of it- well, then, I guess he didn't learn much from his momma's and pappa's.
Humph.
There are big man dragging nets already being manufactured to net in the MAN. The big C has been so absent from the world stage in these days where the whole FAILED REPUBLICAN PROFIT OFF DISASTER project is FINALLY showing its failure and is so HUGE that you can't HIDE IT UNDER THE COVERS ANYMORE.
I actually feel sorry for Cheney. Blinded by ambition and greed and old age he probably doesn't even remember where he has stashed his ill gotten gains. But his sperm and what has borne will live on. The Cheney family has a heavy cleansing purging karma to live through. It will work out as it will. Right now, I have a lot of other people I am praying for and the name Cheney has yet to make it to my prayer list.
Aw shucks, maybe I better add that name. Darn it. It is so hard to pray for people who I think are evil, but maybe they need our prayers the most.

Absolutely, insider trading goes on every day. Why wouldn't people use their "inside" knowledge for profit? It's only condemned on the fringes, so the average "outsider" doesn't get the feeling she can participate as well. And of course it's necessary to publically lash the token Martha Stewart who thinks they've gotten so big for their britches they can dip into the Big Boy's private game.

I watched Enron crash from over $90/share to under $40 before even the barest whisper of a rumor got out that maybe their accounting was "suspect". At $90 Enron had the largest market-cap in America...but of course talk of "accounting irregularities" would have spread like wildfire among virtually anyone even remotely connected with Enron's bookkeeping dept...and a whole slew of insiders took the largest market-cap in America and cut it in half before anyone on the outside had a clue what the reason was (and industry analysts in droves were screaming "buy, buy, buy" all the way down).

Here's a first-person incident: I can say from my own "inside" experience how more than a decade ago I had access to the personal investment accout for the CEO of one of the largest US banks. So one day I paged through this person's transaction history, just out of curiosity. This particular account had absolutely nothing but money-market activity for over two years, except for one single transaction, a purchase of shares in a competing bank "just across the street" as they say. A few days later the closing sale was made, about 12 points (maybe 25%) higher if I remember right.

I kept my mouth shut, and never mentioned it to anyone. What business was it of mine?
